Choice People have partnered with Discover Limerick DAC to assist with their newest role of General Manager for King Johns Castle, one of Irelands most iconic heritage sites.

Were looking for a hands-on, process-driven General Manager to oversee everything from day-to-day operations to participating in long-term strategy. This role is about leading from the frontmotivating staff, improving processes, creating and delivering engaging events, and ensuring that every visitor has a brilliant experience. This position will report to the Head of Site Operations & Visitor Experience and is most suited to a strong people leader with a passion for heritage, events and great customer service.

The appointee will be responsible for the overall management of the Castle. This includes admissions, café(food and beverage), events, programming, retail, cleaning, tour guiding, animation, merchandising, systems and back-office management.

Duties of the role will include:

  • Leadership and developmentBuild and lead a motivated, high-performing team across all departmentsretail, admissions, events, and facilities.
  • Day to day operations and standardsTake full responsibility for the daily running of the site, ensuring smooth, efficient operations. Implement strong processes across all areasadmissions, tours, facilities, events, and retailto drive efficiency and high standards.
  • Events & ProgrammingLead on the development of a lively calendar of events and activities that attract visitors and generate revenue. Utilise the many available spaces to bring the castle and its environs to life.
  • Financial & Commercial Management Take full responsibility for managing budgets, costs, and revenue targets to ensure commercial success.
  • Community & Stakeholder EngagementResponsible for creating a world-class visitor experience, ensuring that every guest leaves with a positive impression.
  • Visitor Experience & Customer Service Responsible for creating a world-class visitor experience, ensuring that every guest leaves with a positive impression.
  • Compliance, Health & SafetyEnsure that all health & safety regulations, legal requirements, and company policies are strictly followed.

The Ideal candidate must have the following traits and experiences:

  • A Strong Leader Youll have at least 5 years of senior management experience, with a track record of leading and motivating teams.
  • A People Person You know how to build a positive team culture and get the best out of people.
  • Process-Driven & Detail-Oriented Youre highly organized, efficient, and always looking for ways to improve how things are done.
  • Event & Programming Experience Youve got experience in creating engaging events, tours, and experiences that attract visitors.
  • Financial Acumen You understand budgets, sales, and revenue generation, and you know how to make commercial decisions.
  • A Passion for Tourism and Heritage You genuinely care about history and culture, and you want to help bring it to life for visitors.
  • A Hands-On Approach Youre not afraid to get stuck in, work alongside the team, and lead from the front.
  • Flexibility You will work a five days over seven day roster, fulltime onsite.
